Yay! You've just received a beautiful flower arrangement and want to keep them for as long as possible 🥰
Here are our tips for longer lasting flowers.

Vase / wrapped flowers:
Ensure your vase is clean before filling it with water - we recommend dish soap or a plant based multipurpose cleaner
Remove any foliage on the stems that will sit in the water to prevent bacteria build up (this should already have been done if your arranged flowers are from us but doesn't hurt to double check)
Trim the stems on a 45 degree angle and place in fresh water immediately
Use clean, sharp scissors to cut stems
Change the water every 1-2 days and trim the stems each time for for fresh water uptake
Keep in a cool spot, out of direct sunlight and away from draughts
Please note some flowers are sensitive to ethylene gas which is produced by fruit and vegetables, therefore some flowers may benefit from being placed away from these items
Selecting the right vase for your bouquet:
Select a vase where the binding point (the point where the stems meet or where the tie has secured the bouquet) is sitting ~5cm below the lip of the vase
If the stems are too tall for the vase you have, trim the stems so the binding point is sitting just below the lip of the vase (see above)
If the stems are too short for the vase you have and you don't have anything shorter, fill with enough water to ensure all stems are submerged
Keep the tie on the bouquet if you'd like to keep the shape and design exactly as the florist made it
If you cut the tie the stems should fall ever so slightly if the binding point is positioned just below the lip of the vase. Otherwise you may lose the design and shape if the binding point is not correctly positioned
Generally vases that are ~20cm tall should suit most bouquets
Bridal bouquets:
Keep your bouquet(s) in water for as long as possible, right up until the moment you need them for the ceremony and/or photos
Avoid touching petals as this can cause bruising and damage
Keep them out of direct sunlight and do not leave them in the car
If possible, take the vase/water source with you on the day
When not in use, place bouquets in water in a shady spot where they can't be knocked over
Avoid, if possible, lying them down horizontally to avoid damage to delicate flowers
If this isn't possible, ensure to place the bouquet down on the back side - there is usually a pin or something similar to indicate which side is the back - this will keep the front looking fresh for photos
Table centrepieces / Event flowers:
If you've been lucky enough to take home a table centrepiece from an event that we've flowered, lucky you!
Please note: Event flowers are carefully strategically sourced at a time that will ensure the flower is at it's most open and beautiful bloom for the event. Therefore the longevity of event flowers are usually shorter than those you would normally receive in a bouquet, where the flowers are tighter and more fresh so you can enjoy them for longer
It's likely the centerpiece you have has either been made in fresh water or with floral wool which is a natural, non-toxic and more sustainable option to traditional floral foam. It's made from basalt rock mineral fibres that have been spun into wool
If the stems have been taken out of water, simply cut the stems at a 45 degree angle and place them in a vase with fresh water as soon as possible. Change the water and cut the stems every 2 days and follow the steps under vase/wrapped flowers
If the arrangement is in floral wool, keep the centrepiece arrangement as is - you can add small amounts of water every 2-3 days to maintain hydration by using a narrow watering can and pouring directly onto the floral wool or into the base of the vessel
We don't recommend you remove the stems from the floral wool as they've been cut quite short and are no longer suitable for a vase
Keep out of direct sunlight, away from heaters and drafts and in a cool spot
Once the flowers have perished, pull stems out and dispose flowers in green waste. Floral wool can be reused (have a go at making an arrangement yourself!), composted in small quantities or broken up and mixed into your soil and used as a soil conditioner.
It's recommended to wash your hands after handling floral wool and if you have sensitive skin, please use protective gloves as an extra precaution
